39) The Better Part of Darkness by Kelly Gay

A divorced mother of one and a kick-ass cop is just two ways to describe Charlie Madigan. She recently returned from the dead and is still taking down the off-world criminals who roam the streets of Atlanta. However her job isn't really easy and the strange nightmares and unexplainable strength is really starting to worry her. Does the way she is feeling have something to do with her revival?

The criminal activity in Atlanta has grown since the Revelation. Her partner Hank helps Charlie keep the city under control but there is a new danger on the street that they haven't been able to find. Ash is on the street. A drug that is targeting random victims. They need to find out who is producing the deathly substance before more people die. If only it was that simple.

This has been out for a couple of months but I only managed to get hold of a copy recently. I was a little concerned about the 'Otherworld' content when I read the blurb for this as I am not really a Sci-Fi book fan. However the 'alien' aspect wasn't really that intense and I found myself liking this within the first few chapters. This was definitely more paranormal than science fiction and it was definitely worth taking a chance on.

The Better Part of Darkness is one of those books you wish you read sooner rather than later. A wonderful example of Paranormal Urban Fantasy and a fresh new look at things is the combination you can expect inside this debut book. The author has come up with something different but realistic and I found myself snatching this book up as often as I could.

One of the good things about this new series is that the characters are really likable. The fact that the main character is a single mum made for a nice change. Most of the books in the Paranormal genre have single women but the author was thinking outside of the box here and it worked in her favour. Filled with action and mystery this series shows real potential.

All in all this was a great read and I enjoyed it alot. I have already put the next book in the series, The Darkest Edge of Dawn, on my wishlist and I won't be waiting around for it. I will be getting it as soon as it released. I can't wait to see where the author takes this new world.

I think you just made up my mind what my next purse book will be. It's been on the nightstand for a while and needs reading.
