81) And One Last Thing... by Molly Harper

The Blurb -

Lacey Terwilliger’s shock and humiliation over her husband’s philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike’s company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike’s family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend," Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town, a media punch line, and the defendant in Mike’s defamation lawsuit.

Her seemingly perfect life up in flames, Lacey retreats to her family’s lakeside cabin, only to encounter an aggravating neighbor named Monroe. A hunky crime novelist with a low tolerance for drama, Monroe is not thrilled about a newly divorced woman moving in next door. But with time, beer, and a screen door to the nose, a cautious friendship develops into something infinitely more satisfying.

Lacey has to make a decision about her long-term living arrangements, though. Should she take a job writing caustic divorce newsletters for paying clients, or move on with her own life, pursuing more literary aspirations? Can she find happiness with a man who tells her what he thinks and not what she wants to hear? And will she ever be able to resist saying one . . . last . . . thing?

My Review -

When I saw this title pop up on Amazon I instantly put it on my pre-order wishlist. Molly Harper impressed me with her vampire series featuring Librarian Jane Jameson and I was hoping this was book number four. So when the cover and blurb finally appeared I was slightly confused. Was this really THE Molly Harper? Was there another author with the same name? I mean there was no mention of vampires let alone anything paranormal in the blurb. It did not compute. Chick-Lit??

So when I was given the chance to read this ARC I instantly said yes. Before my urban paranormal days I was a chick-lit reader and do occasionally still enjoy the odd read of one when the mood takes me. I wanted to see what the author could come up with, was interested to see what kind of writer she is without the supernatural angle. I was curious and I was rewarded because I loved this book.

'And One Last Thing...' was amazing and on so many different levels. The style of course was different from the Jane Jameson books but it still had that air of something that makes Molly's books so yummy. The main character was lovely and I grew to like her immediately. The story was fresh, funny and flawless. It was no surprise that all these factors mixed together had me grabbing for this book whenever I had a moment to spare.

Fans of Molly's vampire series will of course feel disappointed that this is not another paranormal treasure. However while 'And One Last Thing...' is one of those books that you aren't sure about, when you do read it, you do enjoy it and then wonder why you doubted it in the first place. It makes you think, it will make you laugh and you will find a friend in Lacey.

A beautiful Summer read, a chance to explore something new and also a nice break from the paranormal. Anyone who has ever enjoyed a Jill Mansell or Marian Keyes book will love this new enthusiastic writer. I hope Molly will write more non paranormal as well as paranormal books because she is on my must buy author list. Is she on yours? ;)

And One Last Thing...the book goes on sale at the end of July. Check it out!!

I think it would be great to see what Sophie Kinsella could to with the paranormal genre. And I believe Meg Cabot already has!
This sounds like a really fun read! Thanks to Molly for stopping by, and thanks for the great giveaway!
