3) One Hundred Candles by Mara Purnhagen

The Blurb -

It’s taken a long time for me to feel like a normal teenager. But now that I’m settled in a new school, where people know me as more than Charlotte Silver of the infamous Silver family paranormal investigators, it feels like everything is falling into place. And what better way to be normal than to go on a date with a popular football star like Harris Abbott? After all, it’s not as if Noah is anything more than a friend...

But my new life takes a disturbing turn when Harris brings me to a party and we play a game called One Hundred Candles. It seems like harmless, ghostly fun. Until spirits unleashed by the game start showing up at school. Now my friends and family are in very real danger, and the door that I’ve opened into another realm may yield deadly consequences.

My Review -

Mara Purnhagen is a new author to me and when I was given the chance to read the first book in this new YA series, Past Midnight, well I couldn't resist. The blurb actually sounded a bit too good to be true but I took the chance and I loved it. Lucky for me the second part in the series, One Hundred Candles, is coming out soon and I also got the chance to get a review copy. Maybe the first book was just a one off? Everyone knows that the first in a series can be amazing but the second one can put you off. Well One Hundred Candles didn't disappoint and this series is now on my must read list.

The whole concept of the series is just amazing. As the daughter of two paranormal investigators, Charlotte is really the best friend I would have loved to have in school. Logical and very mature, she is also a character that many Young Adults could learn from. Of course as an adult I am really enjoying these books too. So maybe this is one you need to buy a teenager you know and then read it before giving it them?

I don't want to give too much away but this sequel is just as spooky as the first one. Actually it may just be, if possible, a little bit more spookier than Past Midnight. The author is pushing some limits with this one but it works really well and I am extremely excited to see where things will go next. Actually I can only hope there will be a next book in the series because there were a couple of items in this book that still need some closure.

So if you are looking for something a little spooky and you love ghost stories or those ghost hunting TV series, then you need to check out this series. You may need to read this with the light on but you will enjoy it immensely. I couldn't put it down. Add Mara Purnhagen to your wishlist or shopping basket. New, original and well written this really is worth giving a try.

One Hundred Candles is due for release in February.

My review of Past Midnight.
