18) Once Bitten by Clare Willis

Blurb -

Is it more than just a one-bite stand?

Angie McCaffrey has endured her share of liquid lunches and boardroom shmoozefests to win new advertising clients. But her latest account a cosmetics line for wannabe vampires involves some unusual customer research at San Francisco's hippest private nightclub. The "undead" patrons are about as genuine as Macabre Factor's press-on fangs, but one thing is very real the skin-tingling connection Angie feels with her clients' mysterious friend, Eric Taylor.

Still, there are a few problems with this hot new romance. 1) Eric is rumored to have dated Angie's scheming boss, Lucy. 2) Lucy, missing for days, just turned up dead and bloodless. And, oh yeah, 3) Angie has suddenly developed a teeny aversion to sunlight. Is Eric a real vampire, a killer, or both? Angie's got a lot riding on the answer her heart, her life, and maybe even her soul. . .

My Thoughts -

Well I decided that 2011 would be a year of reading some of the books stacked up in my bookshelves and not just reading the new releases as they arrived. So Once Bitten is one of those books that had been gathering dust and moaning at me to read it. I mean I have all these books and I really really wanted them when I read the blurbs and ordered them. Why haven't I read them all? I am sure you ask yourself the same question ;)

Anyway, Once Bitten was a strange one. There were points in this book that made me want to read faster while other parts made me want to throw the book across the room and give up. The story was quite erratic and the main character extremely naive. However the plot seemed to be well thought out while fluffed up with some vampire stuffing. Not good, not bad. Actually I can't decide if this was brilliant or boring.

It seems the author has yet another book out with more vampires and I have added it to my wish list. I may be a glutton for punishment but I really do want to give this author another chance. There is something about this novel that made it worth reading till the end even though all the time I was wishing it would end as soon as possible. This is one to buy from the bargain bin. Maybe you will love it?

Hmm a strange book, that will keep you thinking about it. Don't think I will give it a try. And the why of the TBR? Because we all buy way more books than we have time to read! Just have to wait till we are past working age ...
