64) True Blood, Vol 1 : All Together Now by Alan Ball et al

The Blurb :

Blood and sex mix on a hot rainy night at Merlotte's, when Sookie and her friends are trapped by a vengeful spirit who feeds on shame. People die and dirty secrets are revealed as Sookie, Bill, Eric, Sam, Tara, Jason, and Lafayette and are all coerced to dig deep and tell painful memories from their past-those things we all have locked within us that we never tell another living soul!

My Thoughts :

As a fan of the Sookie Stackhouse series and the TV adaptation, True Blood, I really couldn't resist buying this when I saw it in a shop in London. It wasn't cheap but I decided to treat myself. After all a quick look at the artwork showed that the artists had done a good job and it looked like an original story. What else can a fan ask for.

After finishing this the one huge plus this graphic novel had going for it was that it was an original story. However this story is not written by Charlaine Harris but by some other people that I have never heard of and Alan Ball. Fans of the series will however appreciate the 'new' story which takes place between series 2 and 3 of the TV series and not the books.

If you have never seen the TV series though, you will be hard pressed to understand who is who and what is what. The story has no background to it and jumps right into the plot. The plot is not that spectacular though. I found it weak and a little boring at times. I expected better and maybe Mrs Harris would have come up with a better story.

The artwork is half good, half bad. On some scenes the artists have captured the faces of the characters perfectly while in other scenes the faces look awful. All in all this graphic novel has some good points but quite a few bad ones. Fans will certainly see this as a worthwhile read but it was also an expensive one which cost just as much as the new installment of the Sookie Series or a box set of a whole TV series of Trueblood. Leave it till it is cheaper or put it on your wishlist. This one will keep and you aren't missing much.
