103) Tempest's Fury by Nicole Peeler

The Blurb :

Jane's not happy. She's been packed off to England to fight in a war when she'd much rather be snogging Anyan. Unfortunately, Jane's enemies have been busy stirring up some major trouble -- the kind that attracts a lot of attention. In other words, they're not making it easy for Jane to get any alone time with the barghest, or to indulge in her penchant for stinky cheese.

Praying she can pull of a Joan of Arc without the whole martyrdom thing, Jane must lead Alfar and halflings alike in a desperate battle to combat an ancient evil. Catapulted into the role of Most Unlikely Hero Ever, Jane also has to fight her own insecurities as well as the doubts of those who don't think she can live up to her new role as Champion.

Along the way, Jane learns that some heroes are born. Some are made. And some are bribed with promises of food and sex.

My Thoughts :

The Jane True series has been like a breath of fresh air for the Urban Fantasy genre. A unique story and plot with a variety of different and unusual supernaturals has really set a new level of amazing. So this is a series that quickly became a must read and buy. I loved the Selkie and all the strangeness that came with Jane and her tale. It has been a great ride so far and the fifth book, Tempest's Fury, keeps on the tradition.

It is nice, although strange, to have Jane take her fight away from Rockabill and to Britain. Being British myself I have to say the author did a nice job of keeping things British but not going over the top like some writers feel they need to. It was obvious that the author has spent time in London and the other places mentioned and it was nice to see Jane adapting to the new location with no huge problems. I especially liked the little Welsh bits and loved the red dragon!

The whole history of Anyan, Blondie and all the Supes is becoming a little difficult for me. There is no denying it is needed to help build the story and world but I feel a little bewildered by it all. I don't know how Jane manages to take it all in so easily because I know I would have more questions and need more time to process everything. I have to admit I am finding it hard to keep things straight and I am sure I missed something somewhere that was mighty important. I am not someone who reads books a second time but this one would definitely make the list if I did.

Even though this book is a pivotal part in the story it somehow lacks a certain something that the previous books have had. Maybe it was the change of location or the slightly complicated history that is needed to help build the plot. Whichever it is I hope that book six falls back into the same momentum that the previous four books had.

Once again a brilliant adventure for Jane True and another bravo for the author. I am enjoying this series a lot and can only continue to highly recommend it. You don't know what you are missing!

Great review, I am still on the fence of starting this series or not. I don't really like the covers.
