97) Sprinkle with Murder by Jenn McKinlay

The Blurb :

Melanie Cooper and Angie DeLaura are finally living out their dream as the proud owners of the Fairy Tale Cupcakes bakery. But their first big client is a nightmare. She's a bridezilla who wants 500 custom cupcakes for her wedding.

When Mel stumbles upon the bride-to-be dead-by-cupcake, she becomes the prime suspect. To save themselves and their business, the ladies need to find the real murderer, before the cupcake killer ices someone else.

My Thoughts :

Another read-a-thon this weekend and another attempt to get some of the dusty forgotten books read! I have many a book waiting for review and a few new releases I am dying to read but the books won't read themselves and I promised myself that read-a-thon weekends would be spent on real books that have been waiting to be read for a long time. This one has been on my shelf for over a year.

I love a good cozy and since the beginning of this year I also enjoy a nice cupcake. I even bake my own and it has become a little hobby of mine. So a cozy mystery about a cupcake shop wasn't something I wanted to miss out on. Especially as these kinds of books usually have recipes included!

The beginning of the book was a little hard to understand. I got slightly mixed up in the 'who is who' and how everyone was related to each other. I finally figured out who the main character and narrator was and then it all became a little clearer. It took a few chapters for any murder to take place but it was obvious who was going to snuff it. Then it was the usual amateur sleuthing fun that I was used it and I found myself enjoying the story.

Nice and cute this was a pretty quick read but a fulfilling one. I will definitely be checking out more books in this series and already added the next two to my wishlist. Cupcakes and murder shouldn't really have anything to do with each other but they mix pretty well in this series debut.

I love cozy mysteries myself, but haven't read any books from this particular series (yet). I do have the first one from Jenn's Library Lover's mysteries on my TBR piles though. And oh my, I've just ordered a ton of cozy mysteries from AwesomeBooks too - all series I haven't tried out yet, so buying them used (and with a coupon) was a perfect way to add to those TBR mountains.

@ Victoria - It wasn't planned but it was tasty ;)

@ Birgit - I find myself adding more and more cozy series to my wishlist. There are some really interesting ones out there!

@ Aurian - I think there is even a second one already...or at least it is coming out soon!
