Working out of her button shop in a Chicago brownstone, Josie Giancola has become one of the country's leading experts on buttons. Her reputation draws a Hollywood starlet to the Button Box to shop for one-of-a-kind buttons to adorn her made-to-order wedding gown.
But after the Button Box is ransacked and the actress murdered, Josie's cozy world is thrown into chaos-and a killer is out to keep Josie's lips buttoned up...permanently.
My Review :
There was one big reason for me wanting to read this book/series. It wasn't because it was a cozy mystery and it wasn't because of the buttons. The main reason was the author. I am sure nobody really recognises the name Kylie Logan but if you have read the Pepper Martin series you do know the writer behind the name. Casey Daniels is Kylie Logan and I couldn't wait to see what she was offering under another name.
The button concept wasn't at all pulling me to this book. A cozy based around buttons seemed a little over the top and ridiculous. I am sure it is hard to come up with a cozy concept that hasn't already been done but buttons was a strange area to expand into. However it turned out that buttons can be cozy. I was really impressed with the button connection to the mystery and how it helped solve the crime. It wasn't the least bit boring or silly and actually had me loving this book all the more.
A nice set of characters and a lovely location helped this debut shine. I wonder how the rest of the series will pan out in relation to the buttons but also how the shop will do. Another aspect that will have me reading more about Josie is her love interests. Her ex always hanging around added some humour to the story and her dealings with the detective offers a chance for a new relationship. I am sure it will be an interesting tale that unfolds along the way.
If you are a fan of Casey Daniels and like a good cozy then you really need to try this series. I love her style and it was easy to find here in the first Button Box mystery. Despite it not being non-supernatural it was an enjoyable read and this series will be going on my list of series to keep up with.

I have this series on my wishlist, but I did not know this is an alias :). Not that it is important, as I also still haven't read her other books. I hope to do so in the future though. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thrilled that you liked the book, Amberkatze! I just turned in the fourth book in the series. I've also got two other new series starting this year under the Kylie name: The League of Literary Ladies (book #1, "Mayhem at the Orient Express") and The Chili Cook-Off mysteries (book #1 "Chili Con Carnage"). Sorry! No paranormal connection to either of the new books. But my mind is always spinning and I've got lots of new ideas!
Cheers!
Casey
Thank you for visiting Casey!
I noticed the League of Literary Ladies on Amazon and it is on my pre-order wishlist!
Oh and I found Cooking Up Murder on my bookshelf which I didn't know was also by you! You are keeping me on my toes with all these pseudonym's!
I had a few ideas for cozies...just not a writer ;)
