108) Hounded by Kevin Hearne

The Blurb :

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old—when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer.

Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries. Now the determined deity has tracked him down, and Atticus will need all his power—plus the help of a seductive goddess of death, his vampire and werewolf team of attorneys, a sexy bartender possessed by a Hindu witch, and some good old-fashioned luck of the Irish—to kick some Celtic arse and deliver himself from evil.

My Thoughts :

Sometimes you arrive late to a party and realise you have missed everything.  Well this is what I felt like while reading Hounded, the first part in the Iron Druid Chronicles.  I had heard only good things about this series and even though I really wanted to read it there are only so many books I can fit on my shelves and only so many I can read.  I am fighting a losing battle and it seems to take forever to get to everything.  However this is one I have been waiting to read for a while so the book I started my holiday with was this one and I can't believe I took so long to get to it.

To say this was a brilliant read is just not enough.  I don't think there are many words that can do it justice but I will try.  Although I am pretty sure a lot of the people who read this blog will have already read this book and the next five installments.  Hey! I said I am late to this party and I really am.  It means I can catch up and not have to wait for new releases.  Which is fine by me!

Anyway I loved this.  From the get go I knew I was going to enjoy this book and maybe it was the Druid element or maybe the Irish, history and general cool supernatural stuff but I think it was the style and characters that really made me want more.  Atticus is fun, witty and just cool and his dog Oberon is hilarious.  I really loved the other characters that were introduced along the way inclusing the widow neighbour and certain werewolves and a vampire.

The plot was exciting and interesting while the general concept was original and unique.  I was constantly being wowed by the elements that can together to make this book as great as it was.  Not over the top and not too much to take in, the story was easy to read and keep up with while keeping my interest constantly.  So many little details made this one even more fun to read and the twists and turns were very well done and very surprising.  I loved everything about this one.

So as you may guess I will be continuing with this series.  I am actually thinking of trying the second book on Audio so I can get to it quicker without ruining my to be read pile.  I will have to check if the narrator fits with my idea of Atticus first though.  Rest assured, that in whatever shape of form, I will be reading/listening to the second book very soon.

Me too! I JUST read Hounded in June, and then I went right to Hexed....and just bought the third. Only now I'm reading a review book, so that's taking precedence. I did start Hammered though. I'm wondering why in the hell did I wait so long? Especially since a friend BOUGHT me the first two copies about a year or so ago.....
