165) Home for the Haunting by Juliet Blackwell

The Blurb :

San Francisco contractor Mel Turner is leading a volunteer home renovation project, and while she expects lots of questions from her inexperienced crew, she can’t help asking a few of her own—especially about the haunted house next door…the place local kids call the Murder House.

But when volunteers discover a body while cleaning out a shed, questions pile up faster than discarded lumber. Mel notices signs of ghostly activity next door and she wonders: Are the Murder House ghosts reaching out to her for help, or has the house claimed another victim?

Now, surprised to find herself as the SFPD’s unofficial ghost consultant,” Mel must investigate murders both past and present before a spooky killer finishes another job.

My Thoughts :

I have been a huge fan of Juliet Blackwell's books ever since her Witchcraft mysteries started.  I am a sucker for a good cozy mystery and if there is a paranormal element involved then I really can't resist.  So this Haunted Home Renovation series is on my must read list and is also one I pre-order.  I always look forward to a new book in both series because I love the style and characters.

Home for the Haunting is the fourth book in the series and shows Mel helping out at a volunteer renovation project that has her getting close to a house with a very dark history.  Of course Mel can't keep her attention away from the property and when a body also gets found she is suddenly smack bang in the middle of another murder investigation.

Things progress in the mystery really well and even though the interaction with the ghosts isn't really as prominent as it was in previous books it was still an interesting story.  Finding out who did it after all those years made the story quite sad in retrospect but it made for good reading.  There were lots of characters involved and hopefully some of them will appear again.

All in all this was a super read, maybe not the best in the series, however a great paranormal cozy.  A nice addition to the series and I am really looking forward to more from Mel and I continue to be interested in how her abilities evolve and how she copes with her special mystery solving gift.  Also I am curious about her relationship with her love interest.  I wonder how that will span out in future books.

Looking forward to more Haunted Renovations and hopefully it won't be a long wait till the next book.  This is a series I can highly recommend to anyone who likes a good cozy mystery and/or enjoys ghostly stories.  This remains a must read author and series that will be seen on my pre-order list!
