8) Pecan Pies and Homicides by Ellery Adams

The Blurb :

Her Charmed Pie Shoppe is open for business, but baker Ella Mae LeFaye is about to discover solving a murder is not as easy as pie….

Owning the Charmed Pie Shoppe and serving enchanted treats in the magical town of Havenwood, Georgia, seemed like a little slice of heaven for Ella Mae LeFaye. But now her hopes for both a lasting romance with Hugh Dylan and business success are starting to seem like pie in the sky, and Ella’s left wondering: Where has the magic gone?

When an enchanted grove is set ablaze, Ella realizes she has more grave problems. With her magic waning, she’s going to have to sleuth from scratch to stop an arsonist who has no respect for sacred ground—or human life….

My Thoughts :

A good cozy mystery is only made better if it has something supernatural about it and this series is definitely adding a lot of that ingredient to the recipe.  I thought the first two books in the Charmed Pie Shoppe Mysteries were magical and exciting but this new addition was filled with even more magic and excitement.  With more magical elements being added, new characters coming into play and a twist in Ella's relationship with Hugh, this book was jam packed and extremely tasty.

The Charmed Pie Shoppe Mysteries have been delicious so far and this third installment left me drooling as much as the previous two did.  In fact reading this book inspired me to make a pie of my own even if it didn't have any magic in it it tasted yummy.  With all the talk about pies it isn't hard to get hungry while reading this book.  However the hunger can be pushed away with the murder mystery developments that keep you hooked to the story till the very end.

This time around I felt the magic was slightly overwhelming.  Ella is adapting to her new magical life with hardly any problem but three books in and it seems like things have gone from A to B in record time.  This isn't a complaint or moan but a general observation.  It works, it makes for great reading and the mystery still shines through.  I just hope that the author doesn't use up all the good stuff too soon.

A great concept and a very unique one.  I can't wait to see what happens in book four and look forward to more pie recipes and ideas.  If you are a cozy mystery lover then you will enjoy this series and if you like something with paranormal elements then you will absolutely adore this series.  Wonderful characters, a well thought out plot all wrapped up in an interesting setting.  A great recipe that will hopefully taste good every time!
