34) The Thousand Dollar Tan Line by Rob Thomas

The Blurb :

Ten years after graduating from high school in Neptune, California, Veronica Mars is back in the land of sun, sand, crime, and corruption. She’s traded in her law degree for her old private investigating license, struggling to keep Mars Investigations afloat on the scant cash earned by catching cheating spouses until she can score her first big case.

Now it’s spring break, and college students descend on Neptune, transforming the beaches and boardwalks into a frenzied, week-long rave. When a girl disappears from a party, Veronica is called in to investigate. But this is no simple missing person’s case; the house the girl vanished from belongs to a man with serious criminal ties, and soon Veronica is plunged into a dangerous underworld of drugs and organized crime. And when a major break in the investigation has a shocking connection to Veronica’s past, the case hits closer to home than she ever imagined.

My Thoughts :

I was a huge fan of the Veronica Mars TV series and helped Kickstart the film that came out last month.  So when I saw there was a book coming out and the audio version was being narrated by Kristen Bell there was no decisions to be made about if I was going to get a copy and in which format.  I actually pre-ordered this one and made sure my previous audio book was finished so I could just move straight over to this one.  I was really excited.

And rightly so!  Why hasn't there been any Veronica Mars books before now?   This actually would have been a great second move or a new episode.  There was everyone you expected and everything you could expect.  Lots of a great twists and turns and some amazing getting in trouble 'Veronica style' scenes.  Sassy, nosy and persistent Veronica doing her famous P.I thing is not only exciting and fun but it interesting and thrilling.

The plot was great in this one and it kept me and Veronica guessing for a long time. There was only one thing wrong with this book and that was the lack of Logan.  For anyone who has seen the movie you will know where he is because this book takes place a few months after the film.  There was a couple of moments of Logan but it wasn't enough but any Team Piz members will be disappointed.  He doesn't make an appearance.

I really hope this is the first of many more Veronica Mars books.  For any fans this is the icing on the cake after the movie and for anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of finding out who and what Veronica Mars is because they are bookworms, will have the chance to check her out on paper.  However I highly suggest the audio version.  It is just like watching a new episode but you get to imagine the picture yourself.

I have never seen Veronica Mars, so I can't compare it, but this does sound good.

You really don't need to watch the series to enjoy this book. However I highly recommend checking out thes series. Right now it is easy to get hold / cheap because of the movie coming out.
