180) Queene of Light by Jennifer Armintrout

The veil between fantasy and reality has been torn and the creatures of myth and fairy tale are now able to go into the mortal world. The Humans force the magical beings underground where they take over the sewers, abandoned subways and anything else they can find.

Then it isn't long until the magic folk have problems living together. Two worlds form. The Lightworld is home to the faeries, dragons and dwarves where as the Darkworld is where the vampires, werewolves and demons make their home.

Half faery and half human, Ayla is an assassin. When she lets a Death Angel live she also unsuspectingly gives him a reason to stalk her. They have a bond that neither can describe or understand. What will become of their tie to another? Will their reactions transform the Lightworld and the Darkworld?

Jennifer Armintrout has been quiet for a while. I was a huge fan of her Blood Ties series and couldn't wait for this new series to hit the shelves. Unfortunately the series is about fairies, which is not one of my favourite areas of fantasy. However after pushing myself to read the first hundred pages I started to get pulled in to the story. Before I knew it the book was over and my curiosity on how the series will continue grew.

If anyone who read the Blood Ties series is looking forward to reading something else by Jennifer then be warned. The style of this book is completely different to that of her previous books. I think I would have gotten into this book much easier if it wasn't for the fact that the writing was so unfamiliar to that of what I expected. Although I am not saying that this wasn't good.

This was a nice story and was unusual and fresh. The characters seemed a little distant and I would like to get to know them more but they made for great reading. The concept is original and I am very curious to see where the rest of the series goes. Luckily there isn't a long wait for the next two books. Child of the Darkness is due out in November and Veil of Shadows in December. If only all series would be released so close together.

If you like the fae then this is definitely worth checking out. If you wanted to join Jennifer Armintrout again for a unforgettable reading experience then you will certainly find it in her new novel.
