86) Pressed to Death by Kirsten Weiss

The Blurb :

Perfectly pressed. Perfectly proper. Perfectly deadly.

Paranormal museum owner Maddie Kosloski thinks she has the perfect paranormal exhibit for the harvest festival—a haunted grape press. But before she can open the exhibit, she’s accused of stealing the antique press. And when her accuser is found murdered, all eyes turn to Maddie.

Solving the crime is the last thing on Maddie’s mind, but her mother insists she investigate. Does her mother have a secret agenda? And why has the local charity, Ladies Aid, seemingly gone gangster?

In this light, cozy mystery, haunted houses, runaway wine barrels, and murder combine in a perfect storm of chaos. Facing down danger and her own over-active imagination, Maddie must unearth the killer before she becomes the next ghost to haunt her museum.

My Thoughts :

Sorry for the silence.  I had to go on a business trip and it was all very short notice and not a lot of internet.  Also didn't get to read much either!  However I did finish this book before I left but I just didn't get a chance to write about it.  So after nearly two weeks I am finally able to write a little about the book. Not much though, because I realised now that this one doesn't release until next year!  For some reason I thought it released this month so I was a little premature with reading this and don't want to give anything away!

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, A Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum, and was really looking forward to the next installment.  However I have to say straight away that this sequel, although good, wasn't as good as the debut.  I can't really put my finger on why but there was something that didn't sit right the whole time I was reading it.

Once again there was an interesting enough mystery.  It was a little far fetched but the plot was ok and kept me interested.  The whole Ladies Aid angle seemed a little unnecessary but it gave the reader a chance to get to know some of the characters better and added some strength to the story.  I really was annoyed with the Mason plot.  It may have added another mystery to the story but in my honest opinion it was too soon in the series to go that route already.

While the paranormal aspect of the series is still a little 'up in the air' I found that this time it wasn't as well written.  I liked the whole idea but there wasn't much of the paranormal to deal with and it was all circumstance.  The murder mystery was readable and nice and cozy but I expected something better after the debut book.  This one seemed like it was patch worked together from many ideas without having a clear decision on how it would look in the end.

I still want to keep reading this series.  There are some great cozies out there and there are always room for more.  Especially paranormal ones.  I look forward to seeing what the author comes up with for book three and hope that she finds another interesting story to base a murder mystery and paranormal mystery on.  Maybe less drama and more stability is needed but for now I am happy and will keep reading.

Currently Reading & To Be Read

My reading goals are going well!  I am way ahead of my reading goal and I may have to raise my target because I am over 15 books ahead!  The goals of catching up with some series is going better than I expected and I have already crossed the Flavia de Luce books off because I am all caught up!  My goal of reading more physical books isn't going very well but they aren't going anywhere!

Currently Listening to :

I started listening to this series and want to continue listening to the series so I have been eagerly awaiting the Audible version of this sixth book in the series.

The Cats in Trouble series is a lovely cozy mystery read and the narrator does a wonderful job.  Just a shame that it has taken so long for this book to be available in an audio format seeing as it released last Summer.  I hope the seventh book, due out this Summer, will come out on Audio sooner rather than later.  There is nothing worse than getting invested in a series in a certain format only to have the release dates messed with.

Currently Reading :

Jennifer Estep is one of my all time favourite authors.  She has never let me down and I have enjoyed all of her books so far.

This new release is due out later this month and I was lucky enough to get an ARC version to check out in advance.

I will try not to give anything away when I get around to reading/reviewing this one but it is the next book I am going to be reading and I can't wait.  I already sneaked a little look but I want to make sure I have the time needed to read a nice big chunk, if not all of this, at once.

The Dreaded 'To Be Read' Pile :

Well some books have disappeared but I have to admit there are a few books on the pile that are just not getting off!

149) How to Run with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper

The Blurb :

Caleb Graham is a werewolf by nature, a tracker by profession. He uses his “extra gifts” to find people, and not always in the most legal or ethical manner. He doesn’t care what they’ve done, or who wants them found, as long as his considerable fee is paid. He likes his life simple and uncomplicated.

Anna Moder, former physician to Caleb’s pack, happens across Caleb during a particularly violent “negotiation” that has left him bloodied and unconscious. She helps him, despite the fact that he’s cost her a car, so he insists that she stay with him on the road for a while. As they grow closer, Anna looks past the gruff exterior and and the questionable job to thoroughly decent werewolf underneath.

Anna – who is careful to edit her involvement with Caleb’s pack from their conversations – doesn’t talk about why a nice girl wants to live in the middle of frozen nowhere, but she’s obviously on the run from something. When Anna’s past collides with Caleb’s current assignment from one of his sleazier contacts, Caleb finally has to make a choice—protect his job…or his potential mate?

My Thoughts :

When I get a book to review I check the release date.  I try and read the book about four weeks before the release because I don't want to post a review too early.  However there are certain books by certain authors that I can't hold out on for long and Molly Harper is one of those writers.  I have never read a book by this author that I didn't like and it doesn't matter if it was paranormal or not.  Molly Harper's books always have that special combination inside that just make you feel good and want to come back for more.

The characters in Molly's books are always special and unforgettable and 'How to Run with a Naked Werewolf' is no exception.  Anna is lovable from the get go and her story, strength and humour make you want to give her a hug and be her friend forever.  Caleb isn't an instant hit but I warmed up to him very quickly especially with all the snuggling and sniffing.  You also get the chance to see some of the werewolves from the previous two books in this series.  It is always nice to catch up and the author does love to show us how her other characters are doing and that is fine by me!

Anna's story is one that many women can relate too or can sympathise with in some way or another.  Anna's courage and stability is a wonder and  as soon as she ends up helping Caleb you want them to be together.  It is also not a huge giveaway to say they do or they don't become a couple because these books hold no surprises in regards of who will end up with who.  It is always the story that gets them to their happy ever after that makes for an enjoyable read and the storyline in this book is just amazing.

Twists, turns and some surprises lay in store for Anna and Caleb and it is fun to ride along with them on their road trip of fugitive apprehensions, stripper fighting and organ donor kidnapping adventures.  There is, as with all of Molly's books, never a dull moment and you will find yourself not only smiling but giggling at the witty art of her storytelling.

This is a must read author for me and I can't wait for more from Molly.  She has never disappointed me yet and I doubt she ever will.  Read all her books even if they don't have any werewolves or vampires inside.  They are all amazing reads and this new upcoming release is another shining example to add to the collection.  If you haven't already read any of Molly's books I highly recommend you do asap!  These are feel good reads and are worth every penny.

How to Run with a Naked Werewolf is due for release on December 31st and is the perfect read to bring you into the New Year!
