Author Interview & Contest with H.P. Mallory

The Halloween weekend here on Amberkatze's Book Blog continues with another author guest! H.P. Mallory has been on my radar for a while and I love visiting her website because the art work on there is just amazing. Actually her book covers are just as cool!

So HP is here today to introduce herself and her books. Maybe you will be adding them to your wish list. Or better still try your luck by entering the trick or treat contest. HP is giving away two books but which one you will actually win is yet to be seen :)

Oh and come back tomorrow! There will be more author interviews and contests!

-----------------

Amber - Welcome to Amberkatze's Book Blog! It is great to have you here as
a guest! Could you start things off by telling us a little about your Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Books ?

HP -Thanks for having me! Sure, each of my books falls into the paranormal category although Fire Burn is more of a paranormal romance and To Kill A Warlock is an urban fantasy. Each book follows the trials and tribulations of two women. Fire Burn is about Jolie Wilkins, a woman who learns she's a witch and her roller coaster life after realizing this. Warlock is about a fairy in law enforcement, Dulcie O'Neil. It's basically a whodunnit revolving around the murder of a warlock.

Amber - Where do the ideas for your books come from? Does it just come to you? or do you work on an idea for a while before you expand on it?

HP - Well, I pretty much just make up my own ideas and then work out the kinks as I go. I think about the books constantly and think of different scenarios for my characters to find themselves in.

Amber - How do you pick the names for your characters? Do they have any special meanings?

HP - I actually went through a baby naming book to find most of my character names. LOL there are some good ones in those books!

Amber - Your website has some amazing artwork! Also the covers for the books are pretty cool. Is that your work?

HP - Thank you! Well, my disclaimer here is that I did design all covers for my books, but I did purchase the art. Then I went into photoshop and added the Halloweeny backgrounds, changed up hair and eye colors and added the text. So the design is mine but the art isn't.

Amber - Did you always wanted to be an author? Why did you pick the Paranormal genre?

HP - Yes, I have always wanted to be an author and I think it's really an exciting time in publishing right now because I could see my dream to fruition and I didn't have to rely on anyone but myself. I picked the paranormal genre because A) I love it and B) it isn't limiting--I can create anything I want to and there isn't any limit to my creativity when writing paranormals.

Amber - What are the good times and bad times of being an author?

HP - Good times are when other people really love your books. Bad times are when they don't. LOL

Amber - What's next? More books? A series?

HP - Yes, I'm currently halfway through the next Jolie book and hope to release it in the next 3-4 months. THen I'll work on the next Dulcie book.

Amber - What are you listening and watching lately? Is there any music or other media that influences your writing?

HP - I watch True Blood pretty religiously. And I have a whole soundtrack that I write to--all indie music that definitely influences my books. The two songs I'm really liking the most right now which also had a big effect on my books are: Blah Blah Blah by Say Hi to Your Mom and Pogo by Digitalism or it might be the other way round, Digitalism by Pogo. LOL

Amber - I know from looking at your site that you and I like a lot of the same authors. But who are the authors/series you love the most? The ones that you must buy and read as soon as a new book is released?

HP - I am stuck on the Sookie Stackhouse series. I also loved the Anita Blake series up until about the middle book and then it lost me unfortunately. I'm currently reading a book by Tina Folsom, Samson's Lovely Mortal.

Amber - If you could be any paranormal creature, what would you be and why?

HP - Hmm, probably something magical--a witch or a fairy so I could make stuff out of nothing!

Amber - Thanks for being a guest! Come back again sometime!

HP - Thank you, Amber!

I'm spending Halloween in. I plan to read some nice vampire books and watch scary movies and try to avoid the Halloween candy.
I love the covers of HP's books, they're awesome.

Nice to meet you HP! These look like fun books!

Halloween night, we'll be at home to hand out candy, watching Ghost Hunters live on tv, and playing our favorite online computer game Guildwars which also is having their Halloween event which drops Halloween related items from monsters that are defeated! And eating as much candy as we can of course!

Thank you for the contest!

Quiet Saturday night, catching up on DVRd shows. Tomorrow night will be the neighborhood meander with Lady K, my 7 year old daughter. She's a cheerleader this year, last year was a vampire, next year will be undead bride. She likes the symmetry of alternating each year.

HP: I am the same with the Southern Vampire/Sookie Stackhouse series...love it. And I feel the same as you with the Anita Blake series. I loved it up until the book after OBSIDIAN BUTTERFLY and then she lost a fan.
Your covers are fabulous. I look forward to reading your books.

I'll definitely be spending a quiet night in. I worked about 60 hours this week and I'm pretty tired.

I'll be handing out candy at the door this year, after seeing the grandkids (a football player and a dinosaur) off for trick-or-treating. Today I carved the pumpkin and we have lots of treats, so we're all set!

Halloween night this year consists of a quiet night in. I typically watch SYFY which has my favorite 31 days of Halloween movie marathon. They give this really great scary, suspenseful, cheesy, and disturbing movies. So locking all doors and windows.. keeping my ever so watchful doggie as my bodyguard, pulling the popcorn close and submerge in all that is dark and scary...at least for one night :) Hope everyone has a safe and happy halloween.

I went to a Hallowe'en party with my hubby on Saturday, and then took the kiddies around on Sunday for the annual candy load up. It was fun, but so cold outside.

I missed commenting here somehow. Its a good thing I save my blogged emails & I didn't miss the contest deadline yet...phew!
Great interview & post. On Halloween we, me & the hubby, watched 13 ghosts. That movie has been sorta our the thing we do. This year we added a new movie & I think we will be adding it to our play list for at least the next several years ;) It's called..Repo Man & The Genetic Opera. It has a similar look/style of a Tim Burton type of movie & it's set to Opera music. It sings the story of the original horror/slasher movie of Repo-Man. It has all the blood, guts & gore of slashing/removing body parts on loan. When you default they send the Repo-Man to collect, dead or alive. Wow, if you like watching those sorta movies, wow, is all I can add because we had such a fun time watching this. FYI, it's not meant to be watched by the week stomached! Hope you had a great Halloween.

Me and my best friend went to a great fantasy and gothic fair, all dressed up ofcourse. I love buying things and watching other people's great costumes. My boyfriend went to Fright Night at a lunapark with some friends.
I haven't come across H.P. Mallory books yet, but I love everything about witches, so I will certainly check them out.
