159) A Potion to Die For by Heather Blake

The Blurb :

TROUBLE IS BREWING…

As the owner of Little Shop of Potions, a magic potion shop specializing in love potions, Carly Bell Hartwell finds her product more in demand than ever. A local soothsayer has predicted that a couple in town will soon divorce—and now it seems every married person in Hitching Post, Alabama, wants a little extra matrimonial magic to make sure they stay hitched.

But when Carly finds a dead man in her shop, clutching one of her potion bottles, she goes from most popular potion person to public enemy number one. In no time the murder investigation becomes a witch hunt—literally! Now Carly is going to need to brew up some serious sleuthing skills to clear her name and find the real killer—before the whole town becomes convinced her potions really are to die for!

My Thoughts :

Heather Blake has already made the cozy mystery genre go all paranormal with her amazing Wishcraft Series.  Now she has a new series out that still has a witchy feel to it but revolves more around potions than crafters.  Of course because I am really enjoying her other series I couldn't wait to see what this new one was going to be like and I had 'A Potion to Die For' on pre-order.  It was a good decision!

Now before I continue I have to say that while this debut in the series was good it didn't make as big as an impression as the Wishcrafter series.  The author has once again come up with a wonderful concept set in a delightful town. There is magic, mayhem and murder.  She has created some lovely characters who you will love and hate when appropriate.  There was a romantic interest and some quirky family and friends but despite all the ingredients being there I didn't feel the wow factor.  It is a fun read and I enjoyed it.  Still, there was a certain something missing from this first installment to make it really pop!

Definitely worth reading if you have already had the joy of reading the Wishcrafter books and also a good book to curl up with if you love witchy mysteries.  I have to say I am looking forward to seeing where this series goes and how it will develop.  There are still a lot of possibilities and  it will be interesting to see what the author has in store for Carly, her family and friends and the occupants of Hitching Post.

Heather Blake is on my 'must buy' list and I am looking forward to more of her magical cozies.

I do agree with your review. I really liked the characters, but perhaps a bit too many are so over the top? The mystery was a good one though I did not guess that outcome at all.
I do hope the cousins will become friends though.
