72) Die For Me by Amy Plum

The Blurb :

My life had always been blissfully, wonderfully normal. But it only took one moment to change everything.

Suddenly, my sister, Georgia, and I were orphans. We put our lives into storage and moved to Paris to live with my grandparents. And I knew my shattered heart, my shattered life, would never feel normal again. Then I met Vincent.

Mysterious, sexy, and unnervingly charming, Vincent Delacroix appeared out of nowhere and swept me off my feet. Just like that, I was in danger of losing my heart all over again. But I was ready to let it happen.

Of course, nothing is ever that easy. Because Vincent is no normal human. He has a terrifying destiny, one that puts his life at risk every day. He also has enemies . . . immortal, murderous enemies who are determined to destroy him and all of his kind.

While I'm fighting to piece together the remnants of my life, can I risk putting my heart—as well as my life and my family's—in jeopardy for a chance at love?

My Review :

Die For Me is a debut Young Adult from Amy Plum which comes out next month. I really wanted to stay away from anymore YA reads but the blurb was interesting and the cover was lovely. So I couldn't resist giving it a try.

The lead character, Kate, was a nice young girl to read about. Her grieve over losing her parents was a big subject throughout the book but it was something that consumed her more at the beginning when she moved to Paris. While the area of the book is slightly dull and depressing it actually builds helps up some suspense. Especially when Vincent starts making an appearance.

However when Vincent comes along the book lost a little bit of pull for me. Maybe it is the boredom of the typical 'teenagers falling in love but there is a secret' storyline. That is definitely getting a little tiresome. Although it could also be the change in Kate who started out to be someone I could like into that usual 'Bella' like young woman who can only live and breathe the paranormal guy she just met a few minutes ago.

One thing this book really has going for it is the unique concept and plot. The Revenants glows with freshness that gave me a reason to keep reading. With so many new paranormal books popping up on the shelves and the YA genre having more than enough of its fair share, it was refreshing to see that despite the usual love story there was a strong new supernatural angle being introduced.

Other plus points included the Paris setting which made a lovely change to the typical US location. The lack of the 'clique' enemy crowd of girls was also noteworthy but the lack of friends altogether seemed a little weird. The writing style is also worth mentioning. Die For Me didn't have the usual debut feel to it and I wonder if this is just the authors debut into this genre.

All in all a nice read. The last fifth of the book made up for the lovey dovey middle and the huge reward in this book is the new paranormal beings called the Revenants. Good strong story which is well written and is easy to read. It will be interesting to see what happens next and this is a series I will keep my eye on and if the blurb for book two looks good I am going to join Kate and Vincent in Paris again.
