The Blurb :
Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters.
By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire student on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.
As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her.
My Thoughts :
It seems like every Young Adult novel that branches into the Paranormal has to have some kind of school theme. Yes most of the characters are school age and this means they need to go to school but it does get a little tedious. Hex Hall however does do some things a little differently and has a nice lead character with an interesting story to tell. I can't say that this one held me captive but I did enjoy it.
A nice storyline with a good plot this debut in the series was filled with some nice supernatural elements. Sometimes I felt the story was lacking a little something and kept feeling annoyed with the author for making Sophie so naive. However I think that this is a series that will grow and evolve into something bigger and better as each new installment comes along.
Hex Hall doesn't stand out like the House of the Night or Vampire Academy but it was original enough to keep me reading till the end. I even added the next book in the series to my wishlist. I am very curious to see what comes next and hope that things start to get deeper and darker next time around.

Great review! Glad to see a little more critical review, have read some that were praising Hex Hall--which is fine--but I wanted to see different reviews. I have this one on my TBR pile and can't wait to get to it! Have been seeing lots of reviews lately too!!
Nice review Amber, I want to read this one someday.
