46) First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones
Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.
My Thoughts :
This series has been on my radar for a long time and it is one of those little gems you wished you had read sooner rather than later. At first I didn't think I was going to enjoy the book but as things progressed I really got sucked in to the whole story. I began to like Charley a lot and found myself needing to know all the answers the plot had brought up along the way.
I have to admit that the writing style sometimes left me a little confused but I have to say that the story was so good that it shone above the little moments of "huh" that I had during the book. Sometimes I just didn't know who was who and other times I wasn't sure where Charley and how she got there. Not a huge problem but something I hope improves in the future books because I really want to follow Charley's story.
This was a very orignal book and concept. The author manages to bring in some cool new angles to the usual grim reaper story and make it her own. For a series debut this is amazing. Great plot and super characters make this one to remember and get addicted to. I will be checking ut the next books as soon as possible and really wish I hadn't waited so long to try this out.
If you like ghosts and the whole solving murders thing included then you really need to try this series. Mystery, grim reaping, ghostly fun for everyone!
