My Thoughts :

This book has been on my radar since it released and has been on my Kindle for quite a while.  Finally it won out over the many books I am trying to catch up on and got to the top of the pile.  Am I upset that I waited so long to get to this one?  In a way, yes.  However now I am happy because it means I don't have to wait around forever till the next installment releases because there are about five more books out in the series already!

I have heard only good things about this series but I was still a little skeptical.  A lot of these Young Adult series are too lovey dovey and juvenile.  Yes they are aimed at Younger readers, I get that, but after so many clichés and over the top stories filled with naivety you have to wonder what the authors are trying to teach the new generation.  It seems C.C. Hunter has taken this under consideration and had her main character actually dealing with her realistic problems in a mature way.

Now I am not saying that Born at Midnight had none of kid stuff going on inside of its pages but it didn't have so much that I wanted to give up on it.  The concept was interesting enough to keep me reading and also the variety and selection of characters made the story come to life and wanted had me eager to read on.  After all I started to like the characters and was generally involved and wanted to know what would happen to them.  Kylie was especially addictive as the leading girl and even without the other characters I think I would have read this book to the end just to see how she came out of it all.

Now I don't want to give anything away to anyone who hasn't read this yet but I didn't really see the twist at the end coming.  It was a pleasant surprise and can't wait to see how things continue in the series.  I was already going to check out the next book but finding out a little something about Kylie's background was enough to have me debating buying the second book straight away.  As it was I resisted and got the prequel instead.

A great start to the series with an assortment of supernaturals that the author will hopefully explore more now that Kylie is privy to certain information.  I look forward to my next trip to Shadow Falls and hope that it will come around sooner rather than later.
