163) The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker by Leanna Renee Hieber

When Percy Parker arrives at Athens Academy she has no idea what awaits her. Located in the heart of London the school is like a fortress surrounded by the dark city. Inside the halls are filled with ghosts which Percy can not only see but speak with. Percy has many special abilities but she has kept most of them to herself so people won't think her more strange than she already looks.

Then Percy is required to learn a subject that she does not understand or enjoy. However the Professor who is teaching the lesson takes her under his wing and begins to tutor her. Professor Alexi Rychman wonders if Percy is the person he and his friends, who guard the city against supernatural terrors, have been searching for all these years. Could it be that Percy Parker is the 'seventh'? all the signs are there but his fellow guards are not convinced and are looking elsewhere.

Can Percy Parker learn to believe in her abilities and herself? Will Professor Alexi Rychman manage to find the 'seventh' and love her like it was foretold? Will the guards find the 'seventh' before the Ripper and the other nasty beasts haunting London do more harm? Something dangerous is out there and time is running out.

I am not a huge fan of historical books but this tale set in 1888 had enough mystery to keep me going to the end. At the begin I enjoyed finding out about Percy Parker, with her strange abilities and looks. Then the tension between Percy and Alexi had me hooked. By the end I really needed to find out what would happen to everyone concerned. The story built up so nicely along the way that there was no question about if I could finished it or not.

Deep, dark, dramatic and delightful this was an usual tale that is like the title promises, Strangely Beautiful. Well written and with interesting characters this historical paranormal romance is sure to appeal to a variety of readers. If you are looking for something mysterious and just that little bit different then maybe you should give Miss Parker a try. You will be pleasantly surprised.

I am a fan of historical fiction. When it's mixed with the supernatural and is a thriller as well, I find it a great combo.

This is the first review of Miss Percy that I've read altho I've seen the book mentioned elsewhere. Now I'm convinced I have to read it.

Thanks for the review, Amber
