89) First Frost by Jennifer Estep

The Blurb :

I am Gwen Frost, and I have a Gypsy gift. It's called psychometry - that's a fancy way of saying that I see images in my head and get flashes of other people's memories off almost everything I touch, even guys.

My gift makes me kind of nosy. Okay, okay, maybe a lot nosy--to the point of obsession sometimes. I want to know everything about everyone around me. But even I don't want to know the secrets my friend Paige is hiding or the terrible loss that will send me to a new school - Mythos Academy, where the teachers aren't preparing us for the SATs, but to battle Reapers of Chaos. Now I have no friends and no idea how my gift fits in with all these warrior whiz kids. The only thing I do know is that my life is never, ever going to be the same. . .

My Review :

I really enjoyed the debut in this new Jennifer Estep series, Touch of Frost, so I couldn't resist getting this novella when it released for Kindle. First Frost is a short story that explores the 'before' going to Mythos Academy. Anyone who has read Touch of Frost will know that Gwen repeatedly refers to her mothers accident and death as well as why she believes she is to blame for her mother dying. First Frost explains in more depth what happened back then and how Gwen ends up being a student at the Mythos Academy as well as her first visit.

For a short story this wasn't bad. Easy to read but just like all novellas, a little too quick. This novella didn't cost very much and if you want to check out the series before you buy the first book then this is a great story to start with. It will definitely get you interested and the little bits of information about Gwen's gift and the school she will go to is more than enough to make anyone curious.

Looking forward to more in this series. Jennifer is a very talented writer and this Young Adult series shows a lot of promise.

I am really curious about this new series. Can you also get the novella if you don't have a Kindle?
