16) Tempest Rising by Nicole Peeler

She always knew she didn't fit in to the small town so when Jane True finds out she is half-human, it isn't such a big surprise. Growing up and living in Rockabill hasn't been exactly a fun experience but Jane works hard and tries to keep to herself as much as possible. The one joy she has is her night swim in the nearby ocean. As long as nobody sees her everything in is fine.

It is during one of these night swims that she finds a dead body. Scared and afraid of the consequences of being found out late at night swimming in the freezing water she leaves the body for someone else to find. It isn't long before the local authorities are investigating the murder but there is more to this case than meets the eye. A more supernatural detective comes to town to look into the case and in turn looks for Jane.

Jane finally finds out more about the world that her mother came from, took a break from and ran back to. Supernatural creatures have been all around her and she didn't know. A dog who can heal with a lick is only the tip of the iceberg and Jane is lucky to have a new vampire friend to help her find her way around it. However they still have to find the murderer before he or she strikes again.

I was drawn to this book because of the beautiful and unusual cover. I was convinced I needed to get a copy when I saw all the rave reviews. Finally I got a copy and couldn't wait to see what the fuss was about. Could this be as amazing as everyone said? Was the 'If you Love Sookie Stackhouse you will love this' really true?? Oh yes! It is true!

This is one of those books you read and start instantly kicking yourself for not reading sooner. I think I started kicking myself within the first few pages and then continued to kick myself for not having enough time to just read this in one go. I grabbed at this book all week but I was so determined not to speed read and miss something, so I took my time which took me all week.

Now that I am done I want more. Jane True is the new Sookie Stackhouse and her world is more than interesting. There were twists and turns all the way through and as the story unfolded I found myself hoping that the end wasn't too near. I could have easily read another 300 pages about Jane, her heritage and the world she has been introduced too.

Worth reading if you are into Urban Fantasy, Cozy mysteries or romance. This book covers alot of genres and mixes it up well. I can only add the next book in the series to my wishlist and wait patiently for the release in June. This is another must read series to add to my very long list. Nicole Peeler is the new Charlaine Harris.
