Author Interview & Contest with Cynthia Eden

Author Cynthia Eden is one of my favourite authors and must be a big fan of Amberkatze's Book Blog because this her 4th visit!!! The first time Cynthia was a guest she talked about her book Immortal Danger. The next time she came and told us about Midnight's Master. The third visit, just before Christmas, was all about Eternal Hunger.

Now Cynthia has another new release out! I'll Be Slaying You officially goes on Sale on Tuesday and it is another super hot and exciting read.

So read the interview and find out more about Cynthia's newest release and then enter the contest and you may win a copy! Oh and make sure you enter the monthly giveaway for another chance to win a copy of I'll Be Slaying You.

-----------------------------

Amber - Welcome back to Amberkatze's Book Blog! It is always great to have you here as a guest! Maybe you start things off by telling us a little about your new release, I'll Be Slaying You?

Cynthia – Thank you so much for inviting me back, Amber! :)

I’LL BE SLAYING YOU is the second book in my paranormal Night Watch series. It focuses on Sandra Dee Daniels (Dee), a woman who spends her nights hunting vampires…until she becomes the one who is hunted.

Amber - Does 'I'll Be Slaying You' play in the same world as your previous books? Will fans recognise some of the characters?

Cynthia – Yes, fans will definitely see some familiar characters. The other Night Watch hunters (Jude, Zane, and Jason Pak) who appeared in ETERNAL HUNTER are also back to help out in this story.

Amber - How did you come up with the ideas for your books? Are you already planning the next one as you are writing one? Or do you finish one and then see where the next fits in?

Cynthia – The whole Night Watch series started with one sentence for me. “Sometimes it takes a monster to catch a killer.” I wanted bounty hunters who were, well, a bit more than men. They’re monsters—shifters, demons—but they are the good guys. Well, semi-good. For the Night Watch books, I had basic ideas for the three primary stories from the beginning. So it was all about building the details to link the books.

Amber - How do you decide what to throw at your characters? The plot? Do you brainstorm? or just got with the flow?

Cynthia – I plot, I brainstorm, and I go with the flow. Depending on the book, I do different things. For I’LL BE SLAYING YOU, I just let Dee and Simon take me wherever they wanted to go—and I had a fabulous time with them.

Amber - I have certainly enjoyed all of your books so far. Can we expect more played in the paranormal world you have created? Are you working on any other projects?

Cynthia – I actually recently turned in a fallen angel story to my lovely editor at Kensington. My hero in this book is a fallen angel of death, and the heroine is a vampire. If my hero wants redemption (and his wings back), then he just has to do one thing…kill the heroine.

Amber - Don't you find it hard to write the steamy scenes? Do you have inspiration for the romance side of the books?

Cynthia – The steamy scenes are the hardest to write! I’ve heard some people say that they think those scenes must be easy for writers—they’re not! It’s often a challenge to balance the emotion with the physical aspects of a sensual scene. But I like challenges, so I’m all about finding new ways to bring my characters, um, together.

Amber - What kind of research have you done for your books? Anything interesting or is the research boring?

Cynthia – Oh, the research is always fun. I learn about vamps, ghost hunters, criminal psychology…I think the most interesting research that I have done has been on bounty hunters. Bounty hunters actually have a LOT of power out there.

Amber - How do you pick the names for your characters? Do they have any special meanings?

Cynthia – I usually research the meaning of a name before I give it to a character; however, with “Sandra Dee Daniels”—I just woke up one day and knew that had to be her name. It was a fun name that I knew she would probably hate, so I had to go with it.

Amber - Did you always wanted to be an author? Why did you pick the Paranormal genre?

Cynthia – Yes, always. When I was a kid, I wrote fairy tales and now, I like to think I just write grown-up fairy tales. I love writing in the paranormal genre because it allows me such incredible freedom. Anything can happen in a paranormal story (and it usually does!).

Amber - Lots of authors have 'soundtracks' for their books. Is there any music influenced your books?

Cynthia – I don’t have an entire soundtrack, but for Dee, I think her theme song must be “Bodies” by Drowning Pool (Let the bodies hit the floor…) because she is totally kick-ass. And, yes, as I wrote the action scenes, I did find myself humming that song—and it’s an odd song to hum.

Amber - What books do you enjoy reading? Do you have any favourite authors/series?

Cynthia – So many favorites! I love reading all romance sub-genres, though paranormals are my faves. Some of my top authors include Jayne Ann Krentz, Christine Feehan, Larissa Ione, Angela Knight, Kresley Cole, Shannon McKenna…oh, I have way too many to list.

Amber - If you could be any paranormal creature, what would you be and why?

Cynthia – Tough question. I will pick a vampire. Being young and living forever—how could I refuse?

Amber - Thank you so much for being a guest again! I hope you will come back for more ;)

Cynthia — Thank you, Amber!! I loved answering your questions!

My favorite hands down is the cover for Immortal Danger. You get to use your imagination. You can tell he is well-built the way the shirt clings to his chest. Also that is is good looking by the chiseled chin and high cheek bones. However, that's all the details you can see. Everything else you get to make-up in your head when you read the book.
Thanks!

It's a tough choice, but I'll have to go with Eternal Hunger.

I love the cover of Eternal Hunter - the colors, the title, those abs! I think I'll Be Slaying You is a close second though, it's a fabulous cover.

Thanks Cynthia for the wonderful prize!

oh wow, it's the first time I see the cover for Eternal Flame and it looks gorgeous - the red background is really compelling :)
greetings, Ina

Midnight's Master is my favorite cover. Great contest. Thanks.

Cynthia Eden said...

It looks like Eternal Hunter is ahead in the voting department. Though Rach reminded me that I do have a soft spot for Immortal Danger (really liked that one).

I'm glad you all like the covers. I feel very fortunate in the cover department. I'm always nervous before I get a cover, so it's great to have one that people respond well to.

Thanks for all the comments!!

Following the bread crumbs here from Cynthia's blog.

LOL, Cynthia, when I think of your heroine, Sandra Dee Daniels, I have images of the 50's actress, Sandra Dee. You know, the blond bombshell who played a few "Gidget" and "Tammy" movies. Wouldn't that be cool if she really was somewhat your envisioned heroine.

Anyhow, loved the interview and my favorite cover is Midnights Master. It just really appeals to me and the cover model has such a beautiful face.

Hi ladies - wonderful interview. As for favorite cover, I know I'm not alone is choosing "Eternal Hunter." The lovely six pack highlighted next to that misty full moonlit night...very nice. Color and composition, too.

Cynthia Eden said...

Yay, Pamk! Another vote for Eternal Hunter!!

And Armenia, I loved the original Sandra Dee! When I did my character profile, I decided that Dee's mom would be a big Sandra Dee fan--and thus my heroine, Sandra Dee Daniels, was born.

KT, thanks for your cover vote!! I have that six pack framed on my wall so it will give me inspiration as I write. :-)

JenM said...

I'm kind of partial to all of the Midnight covers. I love that the model's full face is included. But then again, I have a kindle so I don't tend to pay that much attention to a cover anyway. I only see it when I'm browsing or when I buy the book. After that, I never see it again.

Gabby said...

There all really nice, but I'd have to say that my favorite would be Midnight's Master, I'm really fond of covers that guys with nice eyes starring out at you. (Sigh.)

Cynthia Eden said...

JenM, I never even realized that the Midnight covers fully showed all the models' faces (how clueless am I?). I just enjoyed the handsome men.

Gabby, I liked his stare, too. Very intense.

Martha Lawson said...

Midnight Sins is my favorite!! Love that background, mysterious.
Loved the interview and I can't wait to read "I
Be Slaying You!" It looks great as always..

Man, that's a toughie. I love the face shots of the Midnight series, but I ALSO drool over the abs and muscles on the Night Watch covers. If I must name one (because I really, really, really want a signed copy of I'll Be Slaying You), it is .... Eternal Hunter.

All of them!

But seriously if I had to pick just one then it weould have to be 'Belong To The Night'.

I know it's an anthology with other writers but that mysteriously eerie background and hot guy just do it for me :D

Cathy M said...

Cynthia has definitely been blessed by the cover goddess, but if I had to pick just one, it would be Everlasting Bad Boys.

Love the expression on his face, with just enough of a peek at the torso to know that the rest of him would be just as luscious.

Hi Amberkatze, Hi Cynthia! Happy release day and too so much more to come. You already know that I'm excited about your book, every one of them! Miss chatting over here! Cynthia gets the best covers, honest, with those Brava books! I so love ETERNAL HUNGER. When I saw that coming out, I loved how they used that particular font, because it did feel paranormal! And the purple (and too blues on the next book) made it give you that feel too!

PamS told me about the contest here from her email!

I posted your contest on my:

Hi again Cynthia! I put this post separate cuz the other was so long and limited, so this way I could reply from your interview. Amber, you ask fab questions! How many books will be in this Night Watch series? I'm so looking forward to re-visiting. I so love that. Its hard to say goodbye to your characters. Wow on the Fallen Angel. I've read very little on Fallen Angel romances and so want to read more! I hope it ends up being a start of a series for you. You do so much, so know its appreciated! Cynthia, is there a setting, even an erotic setting, that you'd like to visit and set a book in?

It's a tie between Eternal Hunter and I'll Be Slaying You: I love the font on both these (and the graphic around the letters), and I like that the face of the men isn't visible, it makes it more powerful and mysterious. I love how suntan the model is on I'll Be Slaying You and I love the lilac background on Eternal Hunter.
