My Thoughts :

This third part in the Underground Demon Series has spent so long gathering dust on my Kindle that I already have the fourth part ready to read. So it was high time that I got stuck back into the fun and quirky demon filled world that Parker Blue has created in this enjoyable series. The story starts off pretty much from where it left off in book two, Try Me, and it didn't take me very long to get my bearings and slip back into the life of Val.

Everything went as I expected. Of course Val had to do some work for the vamps and it was obvious that the search for the Encyclopedia Magicka would be the main focus this time around. What I didn't expect was Trevor who made the search that much more interesting. I also found the lack of the SCU a huge surprise and disappointment. What I did love was the humour and wit of Val's dog Fang and the great storyline that kept me reading till the end.

This is a Young Adult series but with Val being a succubus it really passes as a read for adults. The lust and sex parts are actually very toned down but the idea is always there and Val has become such an extremely independent and mature teenager that I constantly find myself shocked when the story mentions her age. The writing style is near perfect and there is no confusion about what is going on and who is who. All in all this is a great series that is turning into a must read for me.

Book four, Make Me, is going to get read sooner rather than later and I am expecting puppies and a lot of training. I can't wait!

134) Try Me by Parker Blue

The Blurb :

This part-demon teen vampire fighter and her faithful terrier hellhound are once again patrolling the dark city streets of San Antonio, Texas. Val's hunky human partner, Detective Dan Sullivan, is giving her the cold shoulder since she beheaded his vampire ex-fiancée. Vamp leader Alejandro is struggling to keep the peace between vamps, demons and humans. The mucho powerful Encyclopedia Magicka has been stolen, someone in the Demon Underground is poisoning vamps, and Val's inner lust demon, Lola, is getting very restless since Val's now partnered with sexy Shade, the shadow demon with the blond good looks of an angel.

My Thoughts :

Try Me is the second part in the Demon Underground series and is as every bit good as the debut, Bite Me. Actually Try Me is even better than Bite Me because it grows up a little. Despite the fact that I am still unsure if this is supposed to be a Young Adult series or not, the main character definitely starts acting a little more like an adult.

Dan and the Special Crimes Unit is not so prominent but instead we get a good look at the Demon Underground and a new, more subtle love interest for Val. I liked the changes and the developments in the overall story. I liked seeing more demons and less police especially Dan who was not the right choice for Val.

I am really excited to see where this series will go. A succubus is a sexual supernatural and until now Val has managed to 'keep it in her pants' so to say...but what will happen in book three? After what Val discovers in this installment it will be interesting to see what she decides or if she even does decide.

This is a series I am really enjoying. I can't wait to read the third part, Fang Me, and can only recommend trying this great succubus series. Demon dogs, vampires and much more await you in this action packed read.

108) Bite Me by Parker Blue

The Blurb :

Life after high school is tough enough without having to go 15 rounds with your inner demon. Val Shapiro is just your ordinary, part-demon, teenaged vampire hunter with a Texas drawl. And a pet hellhound named Fang. Soon enough she finds herself deep in the underbelly of the city, discovering the secrets of the Demon Underground and fighting to save those she loves. Whether they love her back or not.

My Thoughts :

I have been curious about this book for a while but never got around to actually picking up and copy and reading it. Somehow the cover looked a little too 'young' and the blurb didn't give enough promise. However this week I felt like giving it a try and I was left pleasantly surprised by the book.

At first I found it a little difficult to like Val. She acted like a spoilt fifteen year old and not a demon killing eighteen year old. Then when I realised she was also a succubus I wondered why. Of course this kind of demon will, at some point, add some 'adult' content to the story and I thought this was supposed to be aimed at young adults. I was a little confused all around.

So immature and naive, Val, took some time to get used to. I don't think she will ever be one of my favourite characters but I have to give her points for her vampire hunting/killing skills and for being so fun to read about. However, it didn't matter that the main character was weak because the book had a lot of other things going for it. A great concept and a fantastic plot were a huge plus in Bite Me. Also the fun little doggy demon sidekick helped keep things alive and officer Dan sounds like a guy I wouldn't mind getting to know better.

If you can get over some little annoying things, like for example, how easy Val managed to get a job and a place to live (I don't think it would happen that easily) then you will find that the story is actually not bad and very interesting. Actually by the time I got through the first third of the book I was hooked. There were some really cool things happening and I was curious about how things would play out.

So despite a few teething problems with this one it turned out to be a nice read. I am definitely going to look out for the sequel and I hope that this series grows into something good and solid as it promises it could.
